Three years ago, we launched Scoop in the San Francisco Bay Area with one route and the simple idea that technology could help make commuting more convenient and enjoyable for everyone.

Over 2 million carpools later, we’re thrilled to announce that Scoop is now available for commuters in Portland. Starting today, local residents will be able to share their commute with co-workers and neighbors with just a few taps on their phone. Portland joins a roster of cities and counties, including the San Francisco Bay Area, Seattle, Reno, and more that are choosing to put the commute first, enabling anyone to make the choice to carpool.

Improving the commute wouldn’t be possible without the help of innovative local companies. In Portland, we’re honored that OHSU will be the first organization to bring Scoop to its employees. OHSU is the first of many Portland companies that will be coming onboard over the next few months, providing an incredible foundation for carpooling in Oregon.

So, how does Scoop work? We use an algorithm to match co-workers or neighbors going in the same direction based on pre-scheduled pick-up times in the morning and evening, along with several other factors, including traffic and prior trip feedback. Riders and drivers split the cost of the commute, so everyone saves.

Of course, the more people who carpool with Scoop, the better the experience is for everyone — whether that’s meeting a new neighbor, creating a valuable connection at work, or simply having an interesting conversation before you get to the office. Simply download the app, available on both iOS and Android, to get started.

From all of us at Scoop, welcome! Here’s to more enjoyable and efficient commutes — and a happier and less stressful life, every single day.

See you in your first carpool!
