Frequently asked questions

How does Scoop keep me safe?

Whether you ride or drive, your safety is always our top priority. All Drivers must pass a Motor Vehicle History Check that evaluates a Driver’s driving history against the industry’s safe driving criteria. With every Scoop carpool, you'll know who you're carpooling with through profile photos, Driver vehicle information, verified company information, full trip details before your carpool starts, and enhanced in-car Health and Safety guidelines to keep you safe. In addition to all these measures, you have the ability to send private feedback to Scoop about your fellow carpoolers after every trip, which is reviewed by our team daily.

How does matching and scheduling work?

For Scoop to create the best carpools, you’ll need to schedule before the 9 p.m. deadline the night before your morning commute or before the 2 p.m. deadline for evening trips. These scheduling deadlines allow the Scoop algorithm to consider several factors for each potential match, including proximity between commuters, added trip time, route preferences, and past trip experiences. Shortly after the scheduling deadline, we’ll send you a notification with the details of your carpool.

Can I choose who I commute with?

Yes, by adding fellow commuters as Favorites, you can let us know that you prefer to match with them, which our matching algorithm will take into account when creating carpools. Additionally, you have the option to add Top Favorites—carpoolers you'll always match with—as long as one of you schedules as a Driver, and you both schedule a carpool with an overlapping time range.

What happens if I'm not matched, or my carpool is canceled?

In the rare instances as a Rider that you don’t match or your carpool is canceled, we’ll immediately place you on the carpool shortlist. The carpool shortlist alerts available Drivers headed the same way as you that you still need a ride. If you’re not matched from the carpool shortlist, we’ll provide you with a backup commute option, like a door-to-door Lyft, to guarantee a ride to your requested destination. Check with your employer to learn how much of your backup commute will be covered.

For Drivers, even if a Rider's plans change, you'll still receive a portion of your total reimbursement every time you offer to drive a carpool.

How much does Scoop cost?

Driver reimbursement amounts typically range from $2-$9 per passenger, per trip. If you choose to ride instead of drive, you'll help cover a share of the commute cost with the Driver. Ride prices vary depending on whether your employer covers all or part of your carpool costs, but typically range from $2-$10 depending on your commute distance, specific route, and other factors. Whether you ride or drive, you'll always see your current pricing in the app before you schedule and take any trips. Check with your employer to learn how much of your carpool rides will be covered.

How do reimbursements work?

Reimbursements are handled automatically within the Scoop app, which means no cash needs to trade hands between Riders and Drivers. Check your transaction history at any time in the Pricing & Payments screen.
